Patch: 3.4 · Chapter: For the Sun is Set to Die · Mission 03 of 3Previous: Hero, Ignite That Primal Sun · Next: Time, Ferry Me Through Ages Wiki: https://honkai-star-rail.fandom.com/wiki/Hero,_Sing_That_Anthem_of_Creation

Official summary

Every truth now stands revealed. Phainon bid farewell to the Hero Within and embraced the Coreflame accumulated through thirty million Cycles, determined to confront his fate. And you, carrying the promise of dawn for Amphoreus, stepped forward into a new world.

Synopsis

This is a brief, single-step coda mission — the emotional and cosmological hinge between the climax of the 3.4 story (Phainon's transformation, which occurred in the prior missions) and the time-travel arc that follows. Its one step is titled "Return to the beginning of time," and all of its on-screen action is a farewell scene at Aedes Elysiae, Phainon's ruined homeland.

Context: what has just happened (prior missions)

The mission's framing text and official summary recap events that took place before this scene, not within it. Across the preceding missions, Phainon "bid farewell to the Hero Within" and embraced the Coreflame accumulated through thirty million Cycles, resolving to confront his fate; the Flame Reaver — described here as the one "who was denied the dawn" — and the "millions [of] cycles of Amphoreus" are said to be reaching their final curtain. Against that backdrop, the Trailblazer, "carrying the promise of dawn for Amphoreus," is being carried back toward the origin point of "Time." The mission's opening card frames the moment plainly:

The millions cycles of Amphoreus, along with the Flame Reaver who was denied the dawn, are about to reach its final curtain. The truth now lies before [the Trailblazer], guiding [them] toward the origin point of "Time."

Timeline note: Phainon's farewell to the Hero Within and his embrace of the accumulated Coreflame are past events referenced by the summary. The only action dramatized in this mission is the awakening-and-farewell below.

Awakening against the reverse flow of time

The Trailblazer regains consciousness to a familiar voice calling them to wake. It is Mem, relieved that they came around: the two were nearly "swept away by the reverse flow of time," and Mem found a safe place to shelter. Mem announces it is about to send the Trailblazer back to "the very start of 'Time'" — but first there is "something very, very important" to say, because at this exact moment Mem's memories are finally whole. Having watched so many memory-fragments across the journey, its own past has at last come into focus, and Mem gently suggests the Trailblazer has surely already guessed the truth.

Cyrene's farewell — "Ripples of Past Reverie"

The voice resolves into a figure named on-screen as Ripples of Past Reverie — the final form of Cyrene. She confirms the Trailblazer likely knew the answer long ago and is unsurprised, "because I'm simple at heart. No matter what form I take, I've always been true to myself." She is glad she remembered in the end, so she can leave "with no regrets."

She explains the parting is not truly a parting, because she is going to become a part of the Trailblazer. The great reveal of the scene is the scale of the cycles:

Ripples of Past Reverie: I'll turn into the memory of this cycle, the 33,550,336th Flame-Chase Journey, and forever reside in the heart of the "Time" [demigod]. This way, you'll carry all that has come before, crossing time itself to reach the next cycle.

She reflects that across the vast span of cycles she still feels lucky, delivering the mission's most quietly devastating line:

Ripples of Past Reverie: After all, across thirty million [Cyrene]s, I was the first and the only one who got to finally meet you!

And she leaves a promise that reframes the entire relationship as a recurring one, cycle after cycle:

Ripples of Past Reverie: So, believe me, in the next cycle, there will be another Cyrene waiting for you. And in the one after that, and the one after that... I will always, always be waiting.

Content that she has finally said everything, she prepares to fade and become part of the Trailblazer. She thanks them for the journey they unknowingly took together "all the way to the world's end," tells them to take her hand and step forward into tomorrow, and sends them off to find "the future Cyrene" and set out with her — asking only that they not keep her waiting too long. Her last words are a blessing for the road ahead: that the Trailblazer's journey always be accompanied "by a cool breeze and rippling waves," and that the days ahead "embrace you like the softest fluff, forever warm, forever gentle."

Turning the page

In the closing cutscene, Mem and Ripples of Past Reverie speak in unison, framing the transition as the turn of a book's page — one made possible by the Trailblazer:

Mem & Ripples of Past Reverie: Now, let's turn to the next page... A page that exists because of you.

Cyrene has the final word, teasing the reunion the next mission will deliver:

Cyrene: Is this a meeting ordained by fate? Or... a long-overdue reunion?♪

The mission completes and unlocks the achievement Paean of Era Nova, handing directly into "Time, Ferry Me Through Ages."

Key characters

  • Trailblazer — As the demigod of "Time," they are being carried back to the origin point of Time itself, tasked with carrying "all that has come before" into the next cycle. They receive Cyrene's memory into themselves and step forward toward a new beginning.
  • Mem — Wakes the Trailblazer and shelters them from the "reverse flow of time." Reveals that its memories are now whole, having pieced together its past from the journey's fragments; it speaks and acts in tandem with Cyrene's essence, strongly implying their identities are intertwined. [?] The exact nature of the Mem–Cyrene bond is stated only obliquely.
  • Cyrene / Ripples of Past Reverie — Cyrene's final form in this cycle. She bids the Trailblazer farewell and chooses to dissolve into the Trailblazer as "the memory of this cycle," so that this journey is carried across time. She reveals she is one of "thirty million Cyrenes" — the first and only one ever to actually meet the Trailblazer — and promises another Cyrene will be waiting in every cycle to come.
  • Phainon — Does not appear in the scene; referenced by the official summary as having bid farewell to the Hero Within and embraced the Coreflame of thirty million Cycles to confront his fate (events of the prior missions).
  • Flame Reaver — Does not appear; referenced as the one "denied the dawn," whose story, along with Amphoreus's millions of cycles, is reaching its "final curtain."

Lore notes

  • The 33,550,336th Flame-Chase Journey — The single largest reveal: the current cycle is explicitly numbered as the 33,550,336th Flame-Chase Journey, and Cyrene speaks of "thirty million" cycles / "thirty million Cyrenes." This confirms Amphoreus's cyclical history (established across 3.2–3.3) has repeated tens of millions of times. [?] The number 33,550,336 is a perfect number (2¹² × (2¹³ − 1)), a likely deliberate design touch tying the count to the twelve Titans; its in-universe significance is unstated.
  • Cyrene becomes the Trailblazer's memory of this cycle — Rather than reincarnating or vanishing, Cyrene merges into the "Time" demigod as the stored memory of the 33,550,336th cycle, so the Trailblazer alone "carries all that has come before, crossing time itself to reach the next cycle." This positions the Trailblazer as the vessel that preserves memory across cycle resets.
  • A Cyrene waits in every cycle — Cyrene reframes herself as a recurring constant: another Cyrene will be waiting in each successive cycle, "always, always." This makes Cyrene a fixed point of the loop, echoing (and inverting) the "see you tomorrow" oath.
  • Mem's memories made whole — Mem's identity thread (open since 3.0) advances sharply: at the origin of Time its memories "finally" complete, and it speaks jointly with Cyrene, implying a shared or entangled origin. Left unresolved in explicit terms.
  • Return to the origin of Time — The Trailblazer is sent to "the very start of 'Time,'" fighting a "reverse flow of time." This sets up the following mission, "Time, Ferry Me Through Ages," and casts the whole 3.4 finale as a time-loop reset.
  • The Flame Reaver "denied the dawn" — The framing text ties the Flame Reaver to the ending of Amphoreus's cycles and calls him the one "denied the dawn," reinforcing the 3.4 identification of the Reaver with a Phainon who never received his dawn (open thread #3).
  • Listed-but-unseen entities — The infobox character roster names Nanook, Lygus, Zephyro, Phainon, and the Flame Reaver alongside the three who actually speak (Trailblazer, Mem, Cyrene). These appear only in the summary framing or accompanying cutscene footage, not the transcribed dialogue. [?] Zephyro is a new name with no in-mission exposition; Nanook (Aeon of Destruction / the caged "Lord Ravager" of open thread #11) is named here for the first time within a mission roster.
  • Achievement — Completing the mission unlocks Paean of Era Nova, naming the moment as the anthem of the new-world creation the mission's title invokes.

Connections

  • Open thread #10 (Mem's identity) — Advanced: Mem's memories become "whole" at the origin of Time, and Mem is shown speaking in unison with Cyrene.
  • Open thread #14 (Cyrene) — Substantially advanced: Cyrene is revealed as a being recurring across all ~30 million cycles, one per cycle, who this time uniquely met the Trailblazer and now merges into them as this cycle's memory. Fulfills her 3.3 promise of "a romantic story like none that has come before."
  • Cyclical history (3.2 reveal) / #16 (reincarnation into calamity) — Quantified: the cycle count (33,550,336) puts a hard number on the repeating Era Nova mechanism.
  • Open thread #6 (the Trailblazer's role) & the "Time" demigod — The Trailblazer is confirmed as the cross-cycle memory-bearer, carried back to the beginning of Time to seed the next cycle.
  • Open thread #3 (Flame Reaver) & #11 (Nanook / Lord Ravager / Destruction) — Touched: the Reaver is "denied the dawn," and Nanook is named in the mission roster, foreshadowing the Destruction thread's payoff.

Sources

Hindsight (full arc)

  • Foreshadowing — "in the next cycle, there will be another Cyrene waiting for you": pays off immediately in 3.5, where the Trailblazer wakes at a peaceful Aedes Elysiae beside Cyrene — the living girl that Mem became — and again in 3.7, where Cyrene, having faded, is reborn as a nameless child at the reset village ("Cyrene" only a pen name for the Daughter of Aedes Elysiae).
  • Foreshadowing — Cyrene merges into the Trailblazer as "the memory of this cycle": this confirms the Trailblazer as the cross-cycle memory-bearer; by 3.7 they carry the physical As I've Written home to the Express as the preserved "seed" of Amphoreus.
  • Foreshadowing — the Trailblazer carried to "the origin of Time": hands directly into 3.5's arrival in the diverged 33,550,337th recurrence, seizing the power of Law and the modified Worldbearing Coreflame to rewrite Era Nova.
  • Reread with the reveal: Mem's memories becoming "whole" and Mem speaking in unison with Cyrene reads plainly in 3.7's terms — Mem is this cycle's Cyrene = PhiLia093 = the Demiurge = the first Nouspore; the "Ripples of Past Reverie" farewell is the memory-entity handing itself into the Trailblazer.
  • [?] resolved — the Mem–Cyrene bond: resolved 3.7 — one being; Mem is what the Flower of Memory became, this cycle's Cyrene.
  • [?] resolved — the stray name "Zephyro" in the roster: clarified in 3.5 as an Overlord/Emanator "ascended from humans" (like Celenova), unrelated to Amphoreus's substrate — a contrast case to the algorithmic Irontomb, not a hidden player.
  • [?] open — the perfect-number motif (33,550,336): never given in-universe meaning.
